Since 2019, Duxford has been running a number of smaller Flying Days as part of our air show season. Following the pandemic, the development of a range of flying events at Duxford has become crucial to how the IWM rebuilds its finances while offering great experiences to our members and visitors.
For 2022, we are running two main air show weekends (as opposed to three weekends pre-Covid). These will follow the established format of approx. 4 hours of flying and all car parks being open for the event. We can have around 25,000 visitor per day for these events, but as the world returns to the new normal, we are anticipating not hitting those numbers this year. The air show in June had around 17,000 visitors over the weekend.
We have four flying days during the season, all with slightly different themes. These are much smaller than air shows, with around 1 ½ hours of flying, and a maximum of 6,500 visitors. We only use the North and East car parks, and opening times are as per a normal day (1000 – 1800).
In addition, we have two special events; a Flying Evening in August, taking place from 1700 – 2100, with around 2 hours of flying, and approx. 1500 visitors. On 8 October, we also have a Flying Finale event, which will have a maximum of 6,500 visitors, and around three hours of flying.
All of the above have been presented and discussed with the Safety Advisory Group, and all key suppliers have been contracted where required.
