Children Services Bulletin
November 2022

Hello, welcome to our children services bulletin! We have some exciting campaigns for you to get involved in and share with your fellow colleagues, including launch of one email, Occupational Therapy, Getting Ready for Change and more! ENJOY…
Occupational Therapy has launched Advice Line in Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire

The advice line is available for children and families with a Cambridgeshire GP, not currently known to the service. Professionals and families can contact an Occupational Therapist to gain practical therapy advice, strategies, and support in relation to a child’s functional and independence skills and to discuss a potential new referral to the service.

The team can help with:

  • Self-Care – Eating, dressing, using the toilet, washing
  • Play – Playing with toys and joining in with community events
  • Learning Opportunities – participation in nursery/school activities

An Occupational Therapist is available to answer queries from parents, school staff and health professionals.

By providing early help and advice around Occupational Therapy issues, unnecessary referrals and wait times can be prevented. This can also be the first step in providing a family with practical strategies, before a referral needs to be made.

The phone line is open: Monday and Thursday 09:30 to 11:00 and Wednesday 14:30 16:00 and is available to discuss children aged 0-18 years (up to 19 years if in full time special school education).

We would like to encourage all our Cambridgeshire professionals to share the attached poster with links to our dedicated website page and the School Ready to Learn Pack.

The purpose of this resource pack is to give school staff and parents ideas to support their children to practise and develop skills, prior to accessing our Advice Line or referring to Occupational Therapy.

Joint Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Healthy Child Programme launches one email

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Healthy Child Programme have launched one email to improve access for both families and professionals in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough by merging its ten existing email inboxes into one single email address. This means that all referrals made into the service will need to be sent to one email address: cambs.pboro.childrenshealth@nhs.net

We would like to ask all of our colleagues to replace any previous versions of referral forms used with a new School Nursing (5-19) referral form available to download here and the updated guidance form is available here.

Please remember that there will be no change to any of the services provided, the introduction of one email is to improve access to the services and reduce the number of email addresses being used. Please note that for the next 3 months all previous email addresses will contain a bounce back and will redirect to our new mailbox.

The Healthy Child Programme provides Health Visiting and School Nursing services for children and young people aged 0-19 living in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Click here to find out more about Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Healthy Child Programme.

ChatHealth

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Healthy Child Programme is encouraging young people in the local area to use the free and confidential text messaging service – ChatHealth to reach out for that much-needed advice and support on issues that matter to them. We would like to ask all school professionals to take an active role in supporting young people in the local area by sharing the ChatHealth number (07480 635443) at every opportunity they get.

Getting Ready for Change

We would like to introduce you to ‘Getting Ready for Change’ (GR4C) an exciting new development for your local School Nursing Service as part of the joint Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Healthy Child Programme.

GR4C is a set of four digital health questionnaires aimed at children, young people and families. They are designed to encourage children, young people and families to think about their own health and development and help identify where extra support is needed.

The next wave of GR4C digital health questionnaires will launch in 2023, starting with Year 11 in January and moving through the other year groups in sequence over spring and summer term. You don’t have to wait to receive a questionnaire to access our service for health advice or support.  Find out more about Getting Ready for Change here. You can also find lots of information here on our website about all of the health topics we cover in the questionnaire and if you want more help you can call us on 0300 029 50 50.

Young people can speak directly to a school nurse through our ChatHealth messaging service by texting 07480635443.
