Constituents meet Pippa Heylings MP at Climate Day of Action in Shepreth

A group of people sitting at tables listening to a speakerSouth Cambs was one of 30+ constituencies that met with our MPs on Saturday 12th October as part of a nationwide National Day of Action on Climate and Nature. Our event was jointly organised by members of the South Cambs Greenpeace group, Sustainable Shepreth and the Haslingfield and Harlton Eco Group.
People came from villages including Shepreth, Haslingfield, Grantchester, Cherry Hinton, Harlton, Duxford, Barrington, Foxton, Harston, Coton, Linton, Little Shelford, Fulbourn, Hauxton, Comberton, Eversden, Fowlmere.
The general mood of the meeting was positive and participative. There was a real ‘buzz’ of energy and enthusiasm in the air.
We worked up “asks” in break out groups in the first half of the meeting: what we would like our MP, Pippa Heylings, to do to address the issues that we are concerned about in relation to climate and nature.
One of our “asks”, developed in advance by Friends of the River Shep, addressed the threats to chalk streams such as the Shep, and called on Pippa to breathe new life into the Chalk Streams Protection Bill as she had promised in her maiden speech in Parliament.
Pippa agreed to touch base with us on the progress of our ‘asks’ in 6 months’ time, and to have another meeting of this type a year from now.
