Network Rail is proposing to apply for a licence from the Office of Road and Rail (ORR) to “upgrade” the Meldreth Road Level Crossing to a four-gate system similar to that on Station Road. This is despite the facts that a Ministry of Transport Inspector found at a public enquiry that there was no justification for the upgrade, and the system installed by the Station is causing serious traffic problems during peak periods, blocking access to businesses and homes, and contributing to pollution.
The Parish Council is proposing to organise a letter-writing campaign to our local MP, councillors and the ORR. It would be helpful for us to have anecdotal evidence of the problems caused on Station Road by the current four-gate system.
