Over the coming months, Shepreth Parish Council, with support from the
Village Hall Committee and Sustainable Shepreth, will be working to upgrade the energy efficiency of the Village Hall. Planning permission for this project was received from SCDC on 17 September 2025 (Reference: 25/02820/FUL).
Our goals for the upgrade are three-fold:
1. To improve the energy efficiency of the hall whilst ensuring that the building continues to be an attractive village asset.
2. To use the project as an example of how older buildings can be upgraded to improve
energy efficiency and reduce energy costs. We hope that this will provide helpful
information about the possibilities for energy efficiency for the village and neighbouring parish residents, and for the management of local businesses and other community buildings.
3. To minimise disruption during the works to all users of the building, car park and recreation field.
Happy Bunnies Nursery, as the major user of the hall, is also on the programme management team.
The upgrade is being made possible through a grant from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, administered by South Cambridgeshire District
Council’s Net Zero Village Fund, and will include:
• Replacement of all existing old and damaged single glazed windows with double glazing.
• Loft insulation in the main hall
• Cavity wall insulation in the front and rear extensions.
• Cladding and rendering the exterior walls, both of the main hall and the extensions.
The timing for the work is subject to availability of the contractors but is likely to be between November 2025 and April 2026.
We will share a photographic diary of events once project work commences, provide regular updates alongside major milestones, and generally collect and share information on the nature and impact of the work.
